The Coach
Coach Dees himself trains Brazilian Jiu Jitsu continuously. Coach Dees has been certified as a BJJ instructor since 2009 through USA Jiu Jitsu. He earned his Purple Belt in BJJ in 2011. Additionally, Coach Dees is a Brown Belt in Midori Yama Budo Kai. He achieved the rank of San Dan in the Shinjimasu Martial Arts Association in 2000. He served as assistant instructor for Heidelberg Martial Arts Club while working in Germany 1997-2001.
While deployed as a Soldier in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn, Coach Dees was Head Coach of Prosperity Jiu Jitsu club in Baghdad 2010-2011. He began his BJJ studies in 2007 with the founder of USA Jiu Jitsu, John Gorman. Coach Dees successfully coached the 2013 Fort Belvoir Combatives Tournament welterweight champion, Army Sgt. Kim Stein, to victory. He has studied Hwa Rang Do, Aikido and American Kick Boxing, embracing the Bruce Lee philosophy of adopting that which is useful and discarding that which is not.
Coach Dees was the World Gate 2001 Heavyweight Champion in continuous sparring. He also won the heavyweight continuous sparring category in the World Cup Martial Arts Championship finals in 2001. Coach Dees has also won gold in North American Grappling Association and Copa Nova tournaments.
